Considerations
There are several considerations and tradeoffs when deciding to use Votex to conduct voting on-chain:
The "mem" and "quo" fields, showing the total number of eligible voters and the quorum percentage, might indirectly reveal the size of the DAO's voter base, a detail some DAOs might prefer to keep private. However, we believe the benefits of having a permanent snapshot of the voter base at the time of the proposal outweigh the minor loss of privacy. Future updates to the protocol could allow for specifying the quorum as an absolute number instead of a percentage. This change could help obfuscate the exact size of the voter base while still ensuring a clear threshold for vote validity, offering more privacy to the DAO.
Ensuring that every vote is an immutable inscription carries significant value and benefits to ensure transparency, fairness and accountability. However, there is a tradeoff in requiring members to pay to inscribe their vote, even if it is a small amount ($1-3) which may be seen by some as exclusionary. We strongly believe that on-chain votes should be meaningful and carry 'weight.' By having voters pay a nominal fee to cast their votes, they contribute to the vote's security and integrity, underscoring the importance of their participation.
